He completed a post-baccalaureate teacher education program at Eastern Michigan University in 2004. He eventually decided to do what he loved: teaching. He left academia in 1999 to become an internet engineer for several years and in 2002 Mary and Ken had their only child, Kira Delenn. After his postdoc at Lawrence Berkeley Lab, starting in 1992 he spent seven years as an Assistant Professor (Research) at Wayne State University in Detroit where he enjoyed teaching much more than research. He performed experiments in nuclear physics at Michigan State, Lawrence Berkeley Lab in California, TRIUMF lab in Vancouver, Brookhaven National Lab on Long Island, and the University of Nantes in France. Ken did his graduate work at Michigan State University where he focused on high energy nuclear reactions until 1990. The same year he married a fellow physics student, Mary Samuel, and they have been together over 35 years. Ken Wilson attended the University of North Carolina at Asheville as an undergrad where he received degrees in physics and in philosophy in 1984. ![]()
